Description

Set yourself up with the knowledge to make good financial decisions in 2019! Designed and led by Creative Capital awardee Amy Smith, a working artist with expertise in bookkeeping, budgeting, tax preparation, and financial management, this workshop is designed to better your financial management skills and raise your financial literacy. Session #1 (March 5) will provide an overview of financial essentials include terms, current economic conditions, valuing time, negotiating pay, expense tracking and taxes.

Session #2 (March 12) will focus on budgeting, saving/retirement, credit, debt management and will include supportive group work and discussion, creating systems for resource sharing, collective thinking, and financial self-determination.

The workshop is appropriate for individual artists working in any genre and at any point in their careers. Attendance at both sessions is required.

About Amy Smith
Amy Smith is a Creative Capital workshop consultant and Co-Director of Headlong Dance Theater, a Bessie-award winning Philadelphia-based dance theater company. Headlong’s work has toured nationally and internationally, and ranges from works for the stage to works that take place in hotel pools (their CC-supported project Hotel Pool), urban neighborhoods (CELL), and people’s homes (This Town is a Mystery). Before founding Headlong with her collaborators, she attended Wesleyan University and the Center for New Dance Development in Holland. Besides Headlong, Smith has performed in the work of Deborah Hay and Ishmael Houston Jones, and she has worked as an actor and director in Philadelphia theater. She served on the Dance/USA Board of Trustees, and spent several years working to create Dance/USA Philadelphia. She helps artists and organizations with their tax preparation and financial management issues. Her personal mission is to help other artists improve their financial literacy.
