Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts (www.usdan.com), the nationally renowned summer arts day camp, has long presented unique summer workshops on the latest techniques for arts educators. This summer, Usdan will present “Finale: A Vibrant Tool For Today’s Music Educators.” The workshop will take place from from July 15-18, 2013. Hours are 9 AM to 12 Noon daily at the Center’s 200-acre Long Island campus in Wheatley Heights (Town of Huntington.) Usdan’s workshops will be taught by certified Finale clinician David Dolgon, and they will cover the notation and composition program that is the industry standard in music notation software, enabling composers, arrangers, musicians, teachers, students and publishers to create, edit, audition, print and publish musical scores.

 

Workshop topics include the use of Finale for:

*Music notation entry

*Producing scores and parts

*Generating worksheets

*Developing lead sheets with lyrics

*Using Band-In-A-Box Auto-Harmonizer and

other Plug-In Applications

*Kodaly stick notation

*Exploding scores into parts

*Creating percussion ensembles

*Scanning music into Finale

*Creating original arrangements

*Inserting musical examples into a Word document

 

David Dolgon, a clinician for MakeMusic! (creator of Finale), has taught graduate courses for the College of New Rochelle and at Queens College. He has presented staff development workshops for the Nassau Country chapter of the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education, and for school districts and county organizations inNew York and New Jersey. He taught band and music theory at Syosset High school, and has been a member of Usdan Center’s clarinet faculty.
