Final Showing of RAWdance@836M
Date and time
Description
Join us on June 2nd for the culmination of RAWdance's residency at 836M Gallery, for a first glimpse at Without Lonesome George and the Last Martha!
Over the last three months, the creative process has been on full display at 836M as RAWdance and visual collaborator Sean Riley have been developing a new piece entirely in public. Drawing inspiration from the French Natural History Museum’s Gallery of Endangered and Extinct Species, as well as iconic casualties of human-caused extinction such as Lonesome George (the last surviving Pinta Island Galapagos tortoise) and Martha (the last passenger pigeon), the piece puts forth a set of physical and visual responses to questions of extinction and de-extinction, loss and legacy.
Read more about the process and the project in the SF Chronicle's great coverage here.
This showing is FREE and open to the public, and there will be seating and standing room both inside and outside the gallery. The showing will begin at 6pm and will run approximately 40 minutes. The gallery doors will open at 5pm. We strongly suggest arriving early if you'd like to grab a seat, or watch from a particular location. You can also get a closer look at the evolving set, including responses to the process by local visual artists.
The cast includes Artistic Directors/Dancers Ryan T. Smith and Wendy Rein, and Dancers/Collaborators Corey Brady, Kelly Del Rosario, Carly Johnson, and Katerina Wong. Scenic design is by Sean Riley.
