Event description

Description

Cheryl Dunye emerged as part of the “queer new wave” of young filmmakers of the 1990s, paving the way for the many black women and LGBTQ directors working today. Dunye has made over 15 films, including The Watermelon Woman, HBO’s Stranger Inside, The Owls, and My Baby’s Daddy. She has directed for many episodic series, including Ava Duverney’s Queen Sugar, Dear White People, and David Makes Man. At the event, Dunye will receive the annual Jose Munoz Award, given to LGBTQ activists. She will speak with Shawn(ta) Smith-Cruz, co-coordinator at the Lesbian Herstory Archives, assistant professor at The Graduate Center, and co-chair of the Board of Directors of CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies.

Presented with CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies.
