Film Viewing: DamNation
Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (EDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County is happy to invite you to our summer film for 2016: DamNation.
This powerful film journey across America explores the sea change in our national attitude from pride in big dams as engineering wonders to the growing awareness that our own future is bound to the life and health of our rivers. Dam removal has moved beyond the fictional Monkey Wrench Gang to go mainstream. Where obsolete dams come down, rivers bound back to life, giving salmon and other wild fish the right of return to primeval spawning grounds, after decades without access.
Doors open at 6 o'clock for this free screening of DamNation. Light refreshments provided by the Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve. Film will begin at 6:30 pm to be followed by a community discussion. This film is intended for adult audiences.
Explore changing minds and changing ecosystems and enjoy the opportunity for thoughtful discussion on how the themes of DamNation are still relevant to today's issues beyond dam building.
