Film Photography – 3-Part Workshop
This three-part workshop is about using film cameras as opposed to digital. It includes a two-hour lecture on film photography, an instructor-assisted group photo shoot, and a critique and gallery showing.
What You’ll Learn:
- Basic photo history and background facts
- How to correctly load camera, expose film, and rewind film
- How to troubleshoot exposures
- Some ideas in the cultural and academic conversations about photography
- Editing images and critique
This workshop is three sessions:
Session 1: Two hour lecture on photography history, camera mechanics and film exposure. Topics in the cultural conversation of photography are also included.
Session 2: An outdoor, weekend photo shoot with two instructors to assist, hands on. Film will be provided (and the location will either be Sutter's Fort or the Sacramento Capitol park.) Mike's Camera will develop and print all student film, and then students will choose their favorite image to have enlarged for gallery show.
Session 3: The galley reception and critique will take place the following Thursday night from 6:00-8:00pm.

About your Instructor
Emma Norman became interested in photography at age 11. A lover of film cameras, darkroom and alternative processes, Emma has studied at the Maine Media Workshops, Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and is currently an MFA candidate at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Emma has taught film photography to kids and adults in private schools, professional darkrooms, and volunteer centers in Washington DC (where she was raised) and San Francisco. Emma has recently moved to Sacramento from the Bay area and is proud to be a member of the Mike's Camera staff since June 2016.
