(Bruno Dumont / France / 2017 / 115 mins)

A retelling of the young woman considered a heroine of France, a martyr and saint, Joan of Arc inspired and catalysed the French army during the Hundred Years' War.

The ever-unpredictable Bruno Dumont (L’il Quinquin) takes another thrilling hairpin turn with this audacious, audience dividing, 15th century-set heavy metal / hip hop tinged musical. Shot entirely on location with a cast of non-actors, Jeannette follows the 8-year-old shepherdess on a path from faith to fanaticism.

+ Surrealism and the Maid of Orleans: Intro from Miska Morning

Part of the BFI's / Screenshot Musical! season
