Join the ranks of the 130+ Texas communities participating in the Film Friendly Texas program!

About this Event

Learn more about the media production industries of Texas, learn how to get your community Film Friendly certified and learn how to take your community's Film Friendly status to the next level by attending the Film Friendly Texas workshop being held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in Lufkin, TX. Sign up today - online registration is now open!

The Texas Film Commission's Film Friendly Texas program provides ongoing training and guidance to statewide community leaders on how to prepare their communities to meet the opportunities and embrace the economic benefits of local media production.

Certification in the Film Friendly Texas program provides media production companies with increased assurance that communities are industry-savvy and sends a clear message to media industry professionals that communities are serious about attracting their business.

The fee for attending this one day workshop is $99 (per person). The workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about the Texas Film Commission's Film Friendly Texas program which fosters media industry business economic development in Texas communities.

However, the target audience for this workshop will be community representatives affiliated with local government organizations who will then go on to serve as the community’s point-of-contact for facilitating film requests. Most communities will choose a member of their city or county government, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce or Economic Development Corporation to attend. Multiple representatives from your community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This workshop will provide panel discussions with Texas Film Commission staff and media industry professionals addressing topics such as:

  • An overview of the Texas media production industries
  • Media production as an Economic Development opportunity for your community
  • What to expect when working with different types of media productions
  • How to create filming guidelines and permit systems for your community
  • How to facilitate and expedite filming inquiries
  • How filming locations are chosen
  • How to take and submit photos of potential filming locations in your community
  • Understanding location agreements, production insurance and other documents
  • Film festivals, film screenings and film tourism opportunities for your community
  • Panel: Film Friendly Texas: How Would You Handle It?
  • Next Steps: My community’s Film Friendly Certified, Now What?
  • Case Studies: Film Friendly Certified Community Highlights

Registration is limited to 40 attendees and a light breakfast and lunch are included in the cost of attendance. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8:30 AM. The workshop will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude by 4:00 PM

Thank you for your interest in Film Friendly Texas! Please contact Kim LeBlanc with the Texas Film Commission at (512) 463-9200 (or at kim.leblanc@gov.texas.gov) with any additional questions.
