This festival highlights the best recent Czech films through screenings and discussions with cast and crew across the USA.

DUKLA 61
Director: David Ondříček, 2018, 150 minutes, Czech Republic

In this historical drama, director David Ondříček examines one of the country’s greatest mining tragedies. Failure to comply with safety protocol, the pressure to produce results, and an avalanche of critical errors caused a fire in a Dukla mineshaft in Havířov on July 7, 1961, killing 108 miners.

The screening will be followed by the Q&A with the director.

About the director
David Ondříček is a Czech director and film producer. He studied at FAMU Prague and is celebrated both for his documentary and feature films. He became a household name in the minds of the Czech people with his cult classic Loners (2000). More recently, he garnered critacal acclaimed for his historical thriller In the Shadow which won 10 Czech Lion Awards, including the Best Film and Best Director. Now, he's introducing his latest project Dukla 61 to foreign audiences as a part of Czech That Film festival.
