Join us for this critically acclaimed 2015 feature directed by Turkish-French director Deniz Gamze Ergüven. Nominated for best foreign language film at the 2015 Oscars and the winner of four César awards in France, Mustang offers an exploration of what it means to be young and female in Turkey, through a beguiling, sensitive and often funny account of five orphaned sisters as they journey from childhood into adulthood.
“With its rooted sense of place and community, and rebellious spirit, this is an accomplished and engaging debut… The restless camera captures both the tactile intimacy of the sisters – they sprawl lazily, limbs entwined, as their fates are decided elsewhere – and the mounting tension as they start to chafe against the lives that have been ordained for them.”
- Wendy Ide, The Guardian
Presented in partnership with My Tights Won’t Stay Up, there will be a creative and fun activity as part of the event led by artist, activist and blogger Jo Harrison.
Through this screening we are also raising awareness of Girls Not Brides, a global partnership of 700+ civil society organisations in over 90 countries committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfil their potential.
We recommend booking in advance for this event as places are limited. Bookings can also be made in during gallery opening hours by speaking to a member of the gallery team or at the Fabrica office on Mondays/Tuesdays 10am - 4pm.
