Fighting School Push-Out: School Discipline Policy at the State Level
Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM (PDT)
This webinar will focus on how interested individuals and organizations can learn from and join a growing network that is working to eliminate harmful local discipline practices, and build understanding and capacity for the implementation of best and better approaches to promoting safe, just, and fair schools across California.
This is an event of the learning and leadership network of the Boys and Men of Color (BMOC) initiative. Staffed and supported by the Earl Warren Institute on Law and Social Policy at U.C. Berkeley, PolicyLInk, Movement Strategy Center and The California Endowment, the BMOC learning and leadership network is an alliance of researchers, community-based organizations, associations, advocates, practitioners and system leaders — all concerned with improving the health and well-being of boys and men of color throughout the state of California.
Presenters will include:
- Pam Martinez, of Padres Y Jovenes Unidos in Colorado. Pam will discuss how Padres Y Jovenes Unidoes has been working to advancing statewide policy change in Colorado in partnership with the Advancement Project
- Laura Faer, Public Counsel. Laura will discuss the statewide context and opportunities for change in California.
- Manuel Criollo, Labor/Community Strategy Center. Manuel will discuss how communities and grassroots leaders are organizing for fair and just schools across the state.
We look forward to a great learning session with you and will provide more information as the day of the event draws near.
