About this event

Webinar on Regional Power Markets

Day Two: Friday, June 18, 2021, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM

NewsData and CJB Energy Economics are excited to present our Fifth Annual Northwest Wholesale Power Markets Conference. This year's event will be held via two webinar sessions, on Thursday, June 17, 2021 and Friday, June 18, 2021. It is designed to help utilities, power marketers, regulators, advocacy groups, consultants and other professionals stay abreast of ongoing developments.

Introduction

The transition to increased use of clean energy resources in place of carbon-emitting electricity generation is well underway in the Pacific Northwest. As the region shifts to more variable energy resources and as capacity constraints emerge, efforts are being made to ensure resource adequacy and system reliability. Wholesale power markets are also evolving, including further expansion of the Western Energy Imbalance Market and interest in broader market design changes.

Meanwhile, recent adverse events affecting the California and Texas power systems have raised questions about whether the Northwest could also be vulnerable to major disruptions. Below-average precipitation in the Pacific Northwest and California during the winter of 2020-2021 has heightened these concerns.

Potential impacts of these developments will be the focus of the Fifth Annual Pacific Northwest Wholesale Power Markets event, to be held via webinar on Thursday, June 17 and Friday. June 18. Co-presented by NewsData and CJB Energy Economics, the event will once again bring together an outstanding group of leading experts to discuss current conditions and implications for the regional wholesale power market.

Webinar Objectives

Our goal for this two-day event is to provide attendees with timely, objective and actionable information on:
