Join us for our CGS Members Only field trip to Sutro Library.

The Sutro Library (the State Library’s San Francisco branch) holds the original collection of Adolph Sutro (1830–1898), California businessman and San Francisco mayor. The library has a large collection of publications and items dating from the 13th to the 21st centuries as well as one of the largest genealogy collections in the U.S.

The library is open 10:00-4:00. Attendees will meet on the 5th floor to have a brief orientation and tour at 11:00 by Dvorah Lewis, Genealogy & Local History Librarian.

Dvorah will also provide information on how to access library resources remotely.

Plan to stay as long as you wish to do research.

Attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase lunch at the small café located on the first floor. There are also lunch options at the Student Center directly next to the library with plenty of seating.

How to Get there

The easiest way to get to the Sutro Library is via public transit. When you reach the Daly City BART station use your clipper card to transfer to a free bus that runs  to/from SFSU campus on bus routes 28 & 57. Get off at the first stop (Holloway)  OR there is a free SFSU shuttle that runs from Daly City BART to/from campus. Cross the street and walk a few blocks on campus  to the library.  Note: The parking is limited. For more info and  driving directions go to the website.
