Event description

Description

Photograph the solar eclipse with Georgia Nature Photographers Association (GNPA)! This is a GNPA MEMBERS ONLY field trip.

The field trip location is on private property (an open field that is a 200 yard walk from where we will park the cars). We will set up almost at the dead center of the eclipse path. A building at the parking area contains two restrooms. The field will be mowed before the event. A few days prior to the event, detailed information will be sent out to registered participants (including directions, recommended equipment and creature comfort needs, etc.). The actial physical address and coordinates will be provided after completed registration out of respect for the owner's property. For planning information on your drive time, use the map in this write up.

Prior to the event, you should familiarize yourself with the equipment needed (filters and glasses) to protect your eyes and camera while shooting. Come prepared! GNPA will provide attendees with one pair of Solar Viewer Eye Glasses from Thousand Oaks Optical. Bring your own if you are more comfortable with your personal equipment. You are responsible for your own safety, especially for your eyes and your camera. GNPA is providing the glasses as a courtesy to attendees, however is in no way liable for any damage you may incur during the trip to your eyes or camera.

It is also important that you are “practiced” and prepared with the equipment you will be using. The field trip leaders, while willing to assist somewhat, will be setting up their own shots of this unique event. For a head start to understanding how to capture an eclipse, attend our June 17, 2017 event at Alpharetta City Hall. Go to this link for detailed information: https://gnpa.org/index.php/events/workshops-2/888-how-to-photograph-the-2017-solar-eclipse

At the field trip location, the duration of the TOTAL eclipse will be approximately 2 minutes and 39 seconds, starting at 2:32 PM. The PARTIAL eclipse begins at 1:03 PM and the exit phase ends at 3:58 PM.. You should arrive by 12:00 Noon in order to have enought time to set up, become familiar with the area, and be ready for the start of the partial eclipse. We will make every effort to help you, however we will be busy with our own photography suring the highligjts of the eclipse.

If you have any questions, please contact Ed Zawacki, ed_zawacki@yahoo.com.

The map below shows the area we will be shooting from. The blue line represents the middle line of the Total Solar Eclipse. We will be near the intersection of I75 and Highway 68, Just South of 68 and just northwest of I75.
