About this event
Old Riverside Foundation members are invited on an exclusive Field Trip to Pasadena, a fundraising event for our organization.
We'll begin our day with Gamble House docent John Azar on a walking tour of the nearby neighborhoods of Westmoreland Place and the adjacent Park Place tract, featuring the architectural works of the Greene Bros., Myron Hunt & Elmer Grey, George Edwin Bergstrom, J.J. Blick, Robert Farquhar, and others. The total walking distance is about 1/4 mile with views of the Arroyo Seco, and takes about 1 1/2 hours.
Then, a private cocktail reception awaits at The Raymond 1886, the late 19th-century caretaker's cottage of the former Raymond Hotel. The cottage also served as private accomodations for visiting celebrities of the day such as Charlie Chaplin, Tom Mix, and Buster Keaton. The structure has been thoughtfully adapted as a restaurant and bar, and is known for its modern American cuisine and craft cocktails. A respresentative of The Raymond 1886 will offer a brief discussion of the property's history and its adaptive reuse.
Our day concludes with the main event: a private "behind the velvet ropes" tour of The Gamble House with docent John Azar — a 2 1/2-hour exploration of the historic landmark home featuring access to rooms and details unavailable on the general tours. The Gamble House is an outstanding example of American Arts and Crafts style architecture. The house and furnishings were designed by Charles and Henry Greene in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Your donation of $175 includes all tours and the cocktail reception at The Raymond 1886 with small bites and a welcome cocktail. Transportation is not included – we will meet at The Gamble House. Limited space is available for this private event – reserve your spot today!
