Event description
Join the Florida Wildflower Foundation at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, for a swamp buggy tour of Disney Wilderness Preserve.

About this Event

This adventure is a two-hour trip into the preserve, where you will learn about the restoration and management of the 11,500-acre property. The tour will take you to Lake Russell, through pine flatwoods, oak hammocks and into scrub ecosystems. See the connectivity of the uplands and lowlands through the unique view atop the swamp buggy. You also will learn how Lake Russell and surrounding wetlands are a vital part of the Florida Everglades.

Disney Wilderness Preserve, land maintained by The Nature Conservancy, holds more than 1,000 plant and animal species. Learn how The Walt Disney Co., The Nature Conservancy, the State of Florida and later, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, worked together to acquire this land as a mitigation project.

Please note, the buggy does require participants to climb steep stairs, and the ride can be a little bumpy at times.

This field trip is $10 for Florida Wildflower Foundation members and $15 for future members. Become a member at www.flawildflowers.org/support. Refunds are available seven days or more in advance of the trip.

For your safety and comfort, bring drinking water, a hat, sun protection, and bug repellent. Closed-toed shoes are recommended. Picnic tables are available if you want to bring a lunch to eat after the tour.
