Event description
Worth a day trip! Numerous wading birds, ducks, and specialties like the endangered Florida Scrub-Jay. Most birding is done by car.

About this Event

Meet at the visitor center at 9:00 a.m. and drive from there to the world-renowned Black Point Wildlife Drive ($10/car). We hope to be lucky enough to spot rails and Roseate Spoonbills, but are sure to observe a variety of duck species such as Northern Pintail and Blue-winged Teal and many wading birds.

We will also stop at Scrub Ridge Trail to observe Florida’s only endemic species, the Florida Scrub-Jay, up close. Dixie Crossroads is a favorite for lunch. Those who wish to may go to other locations on the refuge after lunch - this is a location worth spending the day at!

Cost: Black Point Wildlife drive entry fee (unless you have an annual pass) - pay at gate or buy pass at visitor center

eBird: 253 species

Accessibility: On Black Point Wildlife Drive, we will mostly bird by car - getting out briefly at various viewing locations. Scrub-Jay Trail is a 1 mile loop, grassy trail.
