Learn plant identification skills in a small-class format with botanist Jared Rosenbaum. In this multi-part field trip series, we’ll explore some of northern New Jersey's characteristic habitats, immersing in the flora and discussing ID tips and tools. We’ll discuss the ecological niches of each plant and the cultural uses (food, medicine, craft) that link plants with us.
Emphasis will be placed on knowing and understanding plants in a field setting using our senses and the ecological context. Use of identification manuals, dichotomous keys, and other specialized tools will be covered. We'll use indoor sessions at Duke Farms to hone our skills and discuss our findings.
