Description

An introduction to natural dyes and needle felting, modified for children 4 years and older.

We will have a short discussion about the diffrences between celulose (plant) and protein (animal) fibers.

Maura from Folk Fibers, will discuss the timeless craft of gathering and extracting color from nature to dye fabric. Each child will be given a play silk to sample the natural dyes prepared for class. You will need to wear clothes and shoes that are ok if they get stains, and bring rubber gloves if you want to avoid colorful hands for a day or so. Your welcome to bring a prewashed t-shirt to dye too, natural fibers are best for dyeing with natural dyes.

Lee Charlton from Felting Farmer Lady, will prepare felt pumkins for each child to deocorate by needle-felting jack-o-lantern faces and adding curly wool tendrils to the stems. All tools and materials provided (parents will need to assit the younger children with the needles)

Bring a bagged luch and enjoy a picnic with us at the farm!
