Description
You are invited to an Open House on 5/17/18 featuring Performance Engineered Mixture (PEM) Test Methods
What is it about: The FHWA’s Mobile Concrete Trailer (MCT) introduces agency and industry personnel to the state-of-the-art concrete technology in materials selection, mixture design, field and laboratory testing, and pavement evaluation. The MCT is visiting Colorado to introduce new test methods related to Performance Engineered Mixtures (PEM) initiative and other innovative tests related to concrete materials and construction relevant to field performance.
What does it involve: Demonstration and interactive opportunities for the new PEM test methods such as:
-
Super Air Meter (SAM) - Cutting edge technology to measure air void characteristics of concrete
-
Surface Resistivity - Rapid measurement to indicate permeability of concrete
-
Box Test - Measurement of workability
-
V-Kelly - Measurement of workability
What is the Agenda: Program to include the following:
10:00 to 10:30 Registration
10:30 to 10:40 C-470 Project Overview, Castle Rock Construction Company
10:40 to 10:50 Importance of the PEM Approach, The National CP Tech Center
10:50 to 11:00 Performance Related Specifications and tie-in with PEM, Applied Research Associates
11:00 to 11:10 Real-time Smoothness, Trinity Construction Management Services
11:10 to 11:20 Agency perspective on PEM, Colorado DOT
11:20 to 11:30 Industry perspective on PEM, CO/WY Chapter of ACPA
11:30 to 12:00 PEM Test Methods, FHWA Mobile Concrete Trailer
12:00 to 12:30 Lunch (provided at the venue)
12:30 to 1:30 Demonstrations of the PEM Tests at the FHWA MCT
01:30 to 2:00 Showcasing non-PEM related innovative tests at the FHWA MCT
The MCT will be open until 4:30 p.m. and demonstrations will continue until then. If you cannot make it to the session in the morning, you can drop by anytime to check out the equipment and demonstrations.
Why Should I attend: This is a very unique opportunity to learn about the new PEM tests that deal with design and construction of concrete mixtures for performance. Additionally, the FHWA MCT also showcases other new technologies related to concrete. Many of these technologies are state of the art, that are performance indicators and provide information in real-time. The last time the MCT was in Colorado was in 2008. Check out the MCT website for detailed information on the equipment that will be showcased at https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/pavement/concrete/trailer/
