Sat, March 25, 2017, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM PDT
***Please note the hike location change***
March is International Women's History Month & we are teaming up with Outdoor Journal Tour in their mission to bring outdoor communities together to hike to heal. The Mission + Vision for We Hike to Heal: "Harnessing the power of outdoor activity and mindful movement, #wehiketoheal is both an experience and a dialogue. It is designed to unite communities for inspiration, connection and the healing that Mother Nature provides. Everything we need already exists; we just have to tap into it. We hike for ourselves, for our collective healing, and for our kick ass community of strong empowered women!" wehiketoheal.org
Latourell Falls is the closest of the Columbia Gorge waterfalls to Portland. At 249 feet tall, Latourell will dazzle you with its height! The bright yellow/green lichen on the breathtaking columnar basalt surrounding the falls is a sight to see as well.
The Hike: The hike is a 2.4 mile loop that begins at the viewpoint for Latourell Falls just off the highway & climbs 520 feet to the top of the falls, through lovely green forest along the creek, passing Upper Latourell Falls and back to the lower Latourell Falls. This hike is listed as easy and we would rate it easy-moderate for beginners.
Getting There: Latourell Falls trailhead is 40 minutes from Portland. From Portland, drive east on I-84 to Exit 28 (Bridal Veil). Turn Right on the Historic Highway and drive 2.8 miles to the Latourell Falls Parking lot on the left. From the east, take exit 35 (Ainsworth Park). Drive 10.8 miles west on the Historic Highway to the same lot. Google Maps is an accurate source for getting you to the trailhead. There are no fees to park here. There are vault toilets at the trailhead.
We will head to a nearby watering hole for food + drinks after the hike!
