Event Details

Puppet making workshop exploring alternative characters of Christmas.

Learn how to make and fully decorate a 'jumping jack' puppet of a festive folkloric character of your choosing.

The workshops last three hours each. All materials provided and no artistic experience necessary.

We will spend a little time in the workshop briefly getting to know characters from different countries, such as Krampus (Austria), The Yule Lads (Iceland), and La Befana (Italy), before making the puppets.

Each workshop is a standalone session - you do not need to attend all three, unless you wish to. We will be making a jumping jack puppet in all three sessions. Each session costs £10.

Refreshments provided.

Mental Spaghetti

“MENTAL SPAGHETTI is a not-for-profit creative organisation, facilitating art events, supporting and promoting artists who are also mental health service users.”

Mental Spaghetti is an arts organisation which brings together marginalised groups of society – specifically mental health services users – and the general public by facilitating workshops, accessible exhibitions and events at all skill levels, from the complete novice to practicing and established artists.

We also provide a platform for artists who are also mental health services users to showcase their work to a wider audience, often working one-to-one with service users to teach them the skills they need – such as designing websites, organising exhibitions and promoting their work to create their own opportunities and gain a wider audience in the all-too-often exclusive and tricky to navigate world of creative arts!

Our lead artist, Marie-Louise Plum, works with a large network of emerging and established artists to provide exciting events, workshops and exhibitions, unafraid to challenge perceptions and straddle the sometimes divided sections of society.

We like to make friends – we have a large network of fellow artists, musicians, writers, creatives, performance spaces and arts venues, publicity resources and all-round good creative eggs often at the end of a phone-line to join in with our creative endeavours, in turn leading to future artistic opportunities and skills sharing for all involved!
