Venue: Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire, Paradise Place, B3 3HG
Carl Dreyer’s atmospheric take on the vampire movie, made at the dawn of the sound era, tells the twisted tale of a travelling investigator who gets caught up in a world where nothing is as it seems. INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL BIRMINGHAM 2016 (IDFB) – you will be asked to choose one from the following two IDFB options:
IDFB Option 1: Molnár, Trefeli & Varga Eclipse & JINX 103 UK Premiere
Date: Saturday 7 May 2016
Time: 8pm (Duration: 80 mins)
Venue: The Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome, Hurst Street, Southside, Birmingham, B5 4TB
Age Guidance: 8+
A DOUBLE BILL of two performances, showcasing two different choreographic works that beautifully complement one another – Eclipse and JINX 103.
In ECLIPSE, Hungary-based choreographer Csaba Molnár evokes the improvised masses of the party culture. ECLIPSE reinterprets the stereotypical situations created by the dancing crowd to create a new, fictitious, comic-like world. Csaba Molnár will be working in residence with a large group of local dance students and artists.
In JINX 103, József Trefeli and Gabor Varga explore the rhythms and rituals of life in a high energy, captivating performance. Connected by being from the Hungarian diaspora, Trefeli, born in Australia and Varga in the USSR, delve into their common heritage. Through their shared vocabulary of vibrant body percussion, with clapping and slapping, clicking and stamping, they create a breathtakingly energetic dance of lightning fast footwork, leg twisting and weaving, high kicks and turning jumps.
IDFB Option 2: Vertedance / Jiri Havelka / The Clarinet Factory Correction
Date: Saturday 14 May 2016
Time: 7pm (Duration: 55 mins)
Venue: The Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome, Hurst Street, Southside, Birmingham, B5 4TB
Age Guidance: 8+
Imagine a world where you can’t progress despite your best efforts to push forward. Award-winning contemporary dance company, VerTeDance, from the Czech Republic, have created a beautifully poignant piece about our lack of freedom, reclusion and our power to make decisions. The cast weave around their own shadows whilst a live modern minimalist soundtrack by Clarinet Factory builds a fluid tension.
In 2015 CORRECTION won the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015 and was nominated for a Total Theatre Award. CORRECTION also won the BE Audience Award at Be Festival in Birmingham 2015.

BE FESTIVAL – this ticket gives you access to both of the following two shows, taking place over one evening (no selection required)
Date: Tuesday 21 June 2016
Time: 7pm
Venue: BE FESTIVAL, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Centenary Square, Broad Street, Birmingham, B1 2EP (use the Back Door via Cambridge St. Entrance).
Dot 504 Collective Loss of Memory Czech Republic (60 Mins)
Social influence can have a profound effect on a human’s rational thinking. Place five men in a confined space, where masculinity is championed and a virulent type of group phenomena can take hold, in this case with a brutal outcome. A powerful and physical show, dripping in sweat, that questions our sense of individuality. Double award winners at last year’s Czech Dance Platform Festival, directed and choreographed by Jozef Fruček & Linda Kapetanea.
TIDA Quintetto Italy (60 Mins)
Marco Chenevier returns after winning last year’s 1st Prize Award with an extended performance of a hilarious and poignant show highlighting the perils actors face in a country blighted by financial austerity. Set in a car factory with stage tech hands gone AWOL, the answer lies in the audience’s hands. The outcome is uncertain but the show must certainly go on. TIDA was created in 2005 and work in a theatre and dance context, often with a political and social language.
Note: The Festival Threesome offer for BE FESTIVAL covers the evening’s performances only – no dinner included. If you would like to buy dinner for BE FESTIVAL, you will need to buy this separately via The REP box office or on the evening at the festival box office.
