Event description

What is a 'Research Meet'?

Like TeachMeets but with a focus on practitioner research! #FEResearchMeets are for those working in all parts of post compulsory education - sixth form colleges, further education colleges, adult and community education and training providers.

#FEResearchMeets are democratically run conference events that offer teachers, lecturers and other staff roles from further education the opportunity to share their research or practitioner enquiry with others or to hear from others about their research and projects. Presenters come from a broad section of the further education community and what they all have in common is a passion for researching their own practice and working in an evidence informed way to improve teaching and learning and to collaborate with others. We will explore the research, practice and ideas emerging within the sector, for the sector. The event will seek to reflect the priorities for the sector and showcase innovations.

Where and when?

The venue is Ashton Sixth Form College, the date is Friday 29th November 2019, 9:30am-4pm (Registration from 9.00am).

What is the format?

You will hear from two key note speakers on their current or recent research during the day and you will hear from at least 10 presenters. The presenters pitch their research, innovation or theme for their session and participants then select two of those sessions to attend during the day. All of the presenters are practitioners, teachers, lecturers or tutors within the post compulsory education and training sector.

Who is the event for?

We welcome staff from sixth form colleges, further education colleges, school sixth forms, training providers, adult and community, schools and academies with post 16 provision and staff from work based learning – as either participants and/or presenters.

Want to present? Got something to share?

Great! Fill this in

or contact for a proposal form and submit this for consideration by 1st July 2019. Tell us about your research, project or innovation that you would like to present. We will notify those selected to present in July or September. We will then publicise all presentation themes. Presenters will deliver a 5 minute pitch to the full audience and then a 45 minute workshop to a small group of participants who are interested in the research theme.

Want to offer something but don’t feel ready to fully present? How about a mini-meet? These are informal and small scale conversations with colleagues during the lunch time. You tell us what your research focus is and we put this into the guide and we run a mini meet session over lunch where people can get together to talk.

This year, we would also welcome presenters who can support those new to research to develop their skills.

Want to attend as a participant?

Great! Simply book via Eventbrite.

Information on Key Note speakers will be added below once confirmed and you will be notified of presenter themes in the Autumn term.
