Event description

Description

Guest Speaker: Jennifer Fix

Lecture Description: Femopolis: Cities for women, by women, with women

Cities are gendered. Women engage with and are engaged by cities differently than men, yet women are vastly under-represented around leadership tables in local government and urban design professions. Gender awareness is fundamental to the success of 21st century cities.

Guest Speaker Biography:

Jennifer works with communities of all shapes and sizes on projects that range from Main Street plans and neighbourhood plans, to Official Community Plans and regional growth strategies. The common thread tying these projects together is a focus on public life. At the heart of her work is generative community engagement, in which Jennifer has been privileged to work with surfers in Tofino, cowboys in southwest Saskatchewan, suburban dwellers in Abbotsford, elders near the Salish Sea, children in Vancouver, politicians in Ottawa, and many others.

Her work has been recognized with planning excellence awards from the Canadian Institute of Planners, Union of BC Municipalities, and Planning Institute of BC.
