Description

The FGM workshop will bring together experts from various sectors who will share current work that has been underaken both nationally and internationally.

Introduction

Female Genital Mutilation is a global issue affecting over 200 million women and girls worldwide, yet the UK’s understanding of this is often only associated with the African continent. The Greater Manchester region, is one of the few high risk areas for FGM in the UK, due to its diverse ethnic communities.

The Greater Manchester FGM Forum in partnership with the ESRC (Economic Social Research Council) and the Sylvia Pankhurst Gender and Diversity Research Centre are hosting a free workshop on FGM, from a ‘South Asian Perspective‘. The workshop will also focus on the legal challenges and share good practice models of addressing FGM including working with child survivors.
