Description
NFIP Training for Floodplain Managers: Best Practices for Conducting Substantial Damage Estimates
Estimated amount of time: 5 hours (lunch is on your own)
Description of the Training:
This training will inform and educate community representatives involved in the administration and enforcement of floodplain management on how to utilize FEMA Substantial Damage Estimator (SDE) version 3.0 tool. The SDE 3.0 tool has been developed by FEMA to assist state and local officials in estimating building value and damage costs for single family, manufactured homes and non-residential structures. The tool is based on regulatory requirements of the NFIP for determining substantial damage and allows users without real estate, appraiser or residential or non-residential construction experience to develop reasonable and defensible estimates of structure value and damage estimates. During the training, students will learn how to use version 3.0 of FEMA’s Substantial Damage Estimator tool to identify and record post-disaster damage data.
More information about the SDE tool can be found on FEMA's website at: https://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/18692
