Description
PNPI’s Federal Student Loan Debt & Repayment Boot Camp for Prospective Policymakers is designed to prepare participants to join the ranks of higher education policymakers on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies, and in national associations and think tanks. The event will provide individuals with the content needed to assess, create, and impact postsecondary policy change at the federal level and grant them an opportunity to network with current policy professionals and their peers.
Participants are generally up-and-coming staff of nonprofits, think tanks or national associations, public policy students, and/or current professionals considering a career change. Scholarships are available for a limited number of graduate students to attend.
The learning objectives for the boot camp are to:
- Increase participants’ understanding of student loan borrowing and student loan debt;
- Deepen participants’ understanding of delinquency and default;
- Increase participants’ understanding of family wealth and how it intersects with debt and default patterns across demographics;
- Expose participants to various perspectives on default prevention;
- Increase participants’ understanding of the federal student loan repayment programs;
- Strengthen participants’ understanding of the Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program; and
- Increase participants understanding of what the federal student loan programs cost and why they cost what they do.
Prior to the seminar, each participant will have access to electronic access to pre-readings and resources on federal student debt and repayment.
