Event description
DESIGNxRI presents the first Clambake of the Decade! With our hosts, REPAIR ATELIER ~ rethinking, reusing, repairing objects and community.

About this Event

Join us for the first Clambake of the year! As usual, we bring to you two amazing designers from Rhode Island who will share their knowledge, design process, experience and impact with you.

This month's event is hosted at REPAIR ATELIER in Providence. The Repair Atelier is an art/design workshop that investigates and activates ideas of reuse. It is imagined as a collaborative space to rethink and reuse discarded and broken objects, transform them and in the process 'repair' not just objects but also the communities that form around them.

---

For the uninitiated: Clambake is a monthly gathering for designers, creatives, and people who like design and want to know more. Two presenters from two different design disciplines present each month. Presentations are generally 15 minutes followed by Q&A.

MEET THE PRESENTERS:

Anastasia Laurenzi | Architect

Anastasia Laurenzi‘s mission is to understand place and the space it defines. Born in Memphis, TN, Anastasia was raised with music, dance, photography and architectural design, all of which shaped her seeing of the world. Gathering these interests into an education and career, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Memphis, with a concentration in Photography and Sculpture, and a Masters of Architecture from RISD.

Her pursuits in drawing, making, photography, exhibition design/installation and furniture production continue to influence her design work. Currently Anastasia lives and works in Providence, RI, is a visiting critic at RISD and teaches at Roger Williams University in the School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation.

Before founding AL/STUDIO, Anastasia worked with Oblique Studio, KPF, Richard Fleischner Studio, and buildingstudio.

Paolo Cardini | Industrial Designer

Interested in the design narrative as a tool to communicate complex topics with a simple and direct language, Paolo Cardini has focused his design career on the conversation design and designed objects can reveal. Paolo is currently Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director of the Industrial Design department at RISD. His previous appointment was within the interdisciplinary design graduate program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. His work ranges from product design to interaction design to integrated communication and strategic planning. He studied Industrial Design at Politecnico di Milano and Glasgow School of Art, and he has been department chair of Industrial Design at Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin. He designs and consults for various international firms and speaks at conferences, including TED, and design schools worldwide, as well as actively contributing to the design field with papers and publications.
