Embracing Change: Zen & the Art of Creating a Life You Want

with Rev. Keiryu Lien Shutt

East Bay Meditation Center

285 17th Street, Oakland

Saturday, Feb 17th, 2018 - 9AM - 3PM

At certain times in our lives, it can feel hard to know what to do. Are you at a point in your life in which you feel like it’s time for a change but not sure how to proceed?

Change can be hard. Especially if it’s not one that we’ve chosen: a job or relationship loss, an illness, or other life-transition events. At such time, thinking about all the possible options can feel confusing: “Should I do what I’ve always wanted to do or stay with what I know? Go towards my ‘heart’s desire’ or get more training?”

Rev. Keiryu Liên Shutt is a Dharma heir in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. Born into a Buddhist family in Vietnam, she began her meditation practice in the Insight tradition. A founding member of the Buddhists of Color in 1998, her Zen training began at Tassajara and continued monastically in Japan and Vietnam. While she has placed her trust and faith in Soto Zen, Liên continues to enjoy the deep silence of Insight practices and has completed retreats in the U.S. and Thailand. Please go to AccessToZen.org for info on her weekly meditation group and other events.

EBMC TEACHERS ARE NOT PAID BY THE CENTER. You are invited to offer a voluntary financial gift to them at the class. The East Bay Meditation Center operates using a generosity-based, gift economics model. This means we charge no set registration fees to attend our events and instead rely on the generous giving of our community. All classes at the Center do come with a financial cost. Class participants are offered an opportunity to make a voluntary gift to EBMC during the registration process or at an event itself. Please note that no one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to explore any EBMC volunteer positions, please send an email expressing your interest to admin@eastbaymeditation.org.

In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness, please do not wear fragranced products (including natural fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC.
