About this Event

THE TURN OUT (2018) is set in a small town in Southern Appalachia, where a trucker must decide if he will stand up and take action against sex trafficking at his truck-stop.

The feature film, directed by Pearl Gluck, was developed and cast with trafficking survivors, advocates, and truckers, and shot on location at a local truckstop in West Virginia. It is a narrative film with documentary elements performed by predominantly first-time actors who have experienced some of these events. The film won Best Debut Feature - Female Eye Film Festival; Critics' Choice Award - Iowa Independent Film Festival; Best Experimental Feature - Cutting Edge Film Festival; Best Original Song - American Tracks Music Award.

The Talkback will be hosted by The United Nations Association with the director, Pearl Gluck, Ohio State Senator Teresa Fedor who sponsored anti-trafficking legislation since 2005 including the Safe Harbor Act and the End Demand Act, survivor/advocates featured in the film including Barbara Freeman of The Freeman Project and Regina Westerviller, graphic novelist Thomas Estler with Saving Jane, Rev Adrian Dannhauser with the Episcopal Diocese of New York Task Force Against Human Trafficking and Board Member of ECPAT-USA which aims at ending commercial sex trafficking of children.

SPECIAL THANKS: This program is made possible in part because of the support of the NYIT School of Management - Student Advancement Programs, ECPAT-USA and Charcu Farm to Table Catering.
