FCL Urban Design Talks 3 - Lujiazui and Forum 2004
Lujiazui is located in the Pudong New District on the eastern bank of Huangpu River. It forms a peninsula on a
bend of the Huangpu River. Until the 1980s, Lujiazui was a relatively low-built area, featuring residential houses,
warehouses, and factories. The development of Lujiazui’s skyline began in the early 1990s. The picture below was shot from Puxi in 1994.
Forum 2004, Bercelona
The project was developed in the framework of an international event promoted both by the local government and the United Nations. The development deals with the integration of urban infrastructures and the urban tissue to generate a new waterfront for the city.
Zhongming is a research assistant working on the Multi-Scale Energy Systems for Low Carbon Cities (MuSES)
project. He is currently on the first year of his PhD program with ETH Zürich. He holds master degrees in
architecture and urban design.
Pablo Acebillo is a Researcher working on the Grand Projet at the Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore. He is
an urban planner graduated from the Swiss Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). His current research focuses
on the urban analysis of the 22@ in Barcelona, a 200 ha former industrial area which has been re-used as a
