Fairfield County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., presents a Book Signing and Talk Back Session with Vanessa and Helen Williams about their book "You Have No Idea". "You Have No Idea" is a candid and inspirational mother-daughter memoir of family, fame, trials and triumphs by superstar Vanessa Williams and her mother Helen Williams. The book is a celebration of love between a mother and daughter as well as the lives thus far of two women who have consistently defied the odds to achieve success, no matter how uncertain their paths might have been.

Vanessa Williams is one of the most respected and multi-faceted performers in the entertainment industry today.

Having sold millions of records worldwide, Vanessa has also scored numerous #1 and Top 10 hits on various Billboard Album and Singles charts: Pop, Dance, R&B, Adult Contemporary, Holiday, Latin, Gospel and Jazz.

Her critically acclaimed work in film, television, recordings and the Broadway stage has been recognized by every major industry award affiliate including 4 Emmy nominations, 11 Grammy nominations, a Tony nomination, 3 SAG award nominations, 7 NAACP Image Awards and 3 Satellite Awards. Her platinum single "Colors of the Wind," from the Disney film Pocahontas, won the Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

A strong advocate for equal rights, especially concerning the gay community and minorities, Vanessa was honored with the Human Rights Campaign “Ally for Equality” Award for her humanitarian contributions. She also achieved a career pinnacle with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.

Vanessa’s autobiography, “You Have No Idea,” co-written with her mother Helen Williams, was a New York Times Best Seller in 2012. Her recent Broadway credits include co-starring with Cicely Tyson in The Trip to Bountiful, (which was the #1 play of the 2013 season), After Midnight (2014), and a special limited engagement in Hey, Look Me Over at New York City Center in 2018. She also appears regularly on Evine promoting her fashion line, V. By Vanessa Williams.

Vanessa is the mother of four - Melanie, Jillian, Devin and Sasha. Her charitable endeavors are many and varied, embracing and supporting such organizations as Concerts for America, Special Olympics and several others.

Helen Tinch Williams - Biography

Helen Tinch Williams retired after thirty-seven years in the Ossining, New York public schools as a vocal music educator and as an adjunct professor at Manhattanville College School of Education in Purchase New York.

Mrs. Williams is a graduate of Suny Fredonia with a B.S. in Music Education, a Master’s Degree from Manhattanville College. Purchase N.Y. and additional studies at New York University.

Mrs. Williams is a charter member of The Links Incorporated Greater Hudson Valley Chapter, African American Advisory Board of Historic Hudson Valley, Hope’s Door Advisory Board, American Women of African Heritage and former consultant to Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers.

Mrs. Williams is recognized for her commitment as a mentor for college students, care taker for seniors, an advocate for a Bedford Women’s Correction Facility inmate and initiating the Dr Richard Sheil Memorial Music Scholarship fund at SUNY Fredonia.

Among awards received are the 2001 March of Dimes Mother of The Year, 2006 Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow, 2010 SUNY Fredonia Jessie Hillman Award for Excellence in Education, 2011 The Dorothy Height Distinguished Black Family Award from the National Council of Negro Women and 2012 Dress for Success Toast to our Mothers.

A memoir co-authored with her daughter Vanessa, a New York Times bestseller book titled You Have No Idea, is a candid story of a Famous Daughter, Her No-Nonsense Mother and How They Survived Pageants, Love Loss (and each other)

Mrs. Williams and her late husband Milton A. Williams Jr. are the parents of two children, Vanessa and Christopher and have four grandchildren.
