FAQs
How do I get to and from the event?
Metro Hall is located near the St. Andrew subway station. It may be entered from either King St. W or Wellington St. W and may also be accessed from the St. Andrew subway station and Union Station via an underground PATH connection. No parking will be available onsite.

What should I bring to OPLC?
No ID, no compete! Ensure that you bring a piece of photo ID, a number two pencil, a four-function or scientific calculator (for exam and oral events), and a black or blue pen.

Two 4" x 6" note cards will be provided to each competitor and may be used during event preparation and performance. Information may be written on both sides of the note cards. Note cards will be collected following the presentation.

How do I qualify to attend NLC?
The National Leadership Conference (NLC) will be held from June 29 to July 2 in San Antonio, Texas. The top three teams from each category will receive a plaque and qualify to attend NLC.

The following policies are in place to break ties:

  • Objective Tests: Ties are broken by comparing the correct number of answers to the last 10 questions on the exam. If a tie remains, the competitor who completed the test in a shorter amount of time will place higher. If this does not break the tie, answers to the last 20 questions will be reviewed and determine the winner.
  • Objective and Production Tests: The production test scores will be used to break a tie.
  • Objective Tests and Performances: The objective test score will be used to break a tie based on the tie-breaking criteria of objective tests.
  • Reports/Projects and Performances: The report/project scores will be used to break a tie.
  • Performances: Judges must break ties and all judges’ decisions are final.

If you qualify and would like to attend, you or a representative must sign to confirm that you will be competing at NLC immediately following the awards ceremony. The total cost of attending NLC (including hotels and flights) will be approximately $1,200 CAD per person. You may be subject to a cancellation fee if you decide not to attend at a later date.

Do I have to stay for the entire day?
Members are required to be present during registration and attend the opening ceremony. Members are strongly encouraged to attend the awards ceremony or to send a representative as awards will not be available for pick-up at a later date. Members who are not competing will not be supervised and are expected to have permission from a parent or guardian to travel to and from Metro Hall unaccompanied. Lunch will not be provided but there are many restaurants in the area.

My partner is unable to attend. Can I still compete?
Yes, role play events are open to teams of one to three individuals. Therefore, you will be allowed to compete alone at OPLC. In the case that you qualify for NLC, you may attend NLC with your partner.

What is the refund policy?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide refunds. Member dues are submitted to the FBLA-PBL National Center upon registration and are non-transferable and non-refundable. You may register using your legal name or your preferred name, though we would strongly suggest the former.

I have a question that isn't answered here.
Please message us on Facebook or email us at general@fbla.ca. We will get back to you as soon as we can.
