Workshop Description: In this workshop, attendees will learn new strategies for evaluating social benefit and create actionable frameworks for measuring, analyzing, and managing for maximum positive change. With the goal of providing practical skills and hands-on guidance to participants, the workshop will:

  • Introduce broader impact assessment tools such as evaluation logic models and theories of change.
  • Explore different types of social metrics and how those metrics relate to an organization’s varied stakeholders.
  • Present case studies that cover diverse situational needs and implementation frameworks.
  • Lead participants through the construction of a workflow for collecting social metrics that is tailored to suit their individual operations, and guide them on how to create a list of social metrics that accurately assesses the organization's social performance.
  • Establish an action plan for engaging partners in developing their measurement plan and maintaining this focus within their organizations.

Who Should Attend? This workshop is designed for all types of organizations working to create social or environmental impact, including nonprofits who need to report social impact for grants, and for-profits who need to monetize social impact for investors and their target audience.

Networking and Food/Drinks? We'll host a half-hour of networking before the workshop begins, starting at 4.30pm. You'll be able to mingle with Fast Pitch 2011 Semi-Finalist/Finalist alumni, 2012 mentors, judges, & coaches, and your fellow workshop participants. Heavy appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.

SpeakersSachi Shenoy and Steve Schwartz of Upaya, and Sarah Stachowiak of Organizational Research Services.

Anything Else? Participants will be asked to spend 1-2 hours in advance of the workshop reviewing content that provides the difference between quantitative and qualitative measurement and other tools for turning impact measurement into storytelling, in order to begin directly with impact measurement tools unique to your organization.

**Fast Pitch Requirement: Early-stage organizations MUST attend at least one workshop prior to application deadline on June 29th, while leaders of later-stage and established programs are recommended to attend as they see fit, but are but not required to do so. If you are an early-stage organization who intends to apply to Fast Pitch and a $30 workshop fee is a financial hardship, a number of scholarships are available; please email Social Venture Partner's executive director Paul Shoemaker (Shoe [at] svpseattle [dot] org) for more information. For more information on the Fast Pitch workshops, please see our website.

About the Fast Pitch Process: From very early ideas to established organizations, Fast Pitch is here to help. Over a three-month incubation period (mid-July – mid-October), our workshops, mentors and volunteer consultants will coach Puget Sound area nonprofits and social enterprises to assess strengths and weaknesses, refine their business models, support their team, and articulate their innovation. Yes, it's true: Organizations best poised to win the October 18th Fast Pitch Finale at Seattle Center will have to have their act together. But no matter what stage an organization is in when they apply, we'll help forty innovative social impact entrepreneurs or nonprofit leaders get on the path to winning for their organization and for our community.
