Event description

Description

Tessa Boase will present her new book on Margaretta Lemon, a prominent past resident of Blackheath, entitled Mrs Pankhurst's Purple Feather - Fashion, Fury and Feminism - Women's Fight for Change. Margaretta Lemon clashed with Emmeline Pankhurst and began to stir up the Suffragette movement. She felt passionately about the use of women using feathers and stuffed real birds in their hats for decorative purposes and she could often be seen and heard on a Sunday addressing the ladies of Blackheath on their way to All Saints church. She lived at four different local addresses. Her story is closely entwined with Emmeline Pankhurst and her campaign led to the establishment of the RSPB.

The evening will be held in the Bakehouse, Bennett Park, and begin at 7pm with a glass of wine followed by the talk at 7.30. Questions and book signing will follow.
