Come join us for an afternoon of fashion and it's influence through the MadeINcubator. Fashion Forward is a blogger expert, and industry panel event which will explore our role as it pertains to the fashion climate change in Boston, as well as how more individuals, companies and organizations can aim to become more fashion forward through innovation and business.

This event strives to help emerging fashion entrepreneurs learn from and network with the best and brightest of the industry. Examples of topics will include setting goals, accessing capital, as well as industry specific sessions in blogging, fashion, retail buying and styling. Following the panel discussion, the attendees will be encouraged to participate in a speed networking mixer between the panelists and attendees. Editor-In-Chief of Boston Common Magazine

Lisa Pierpont is the editor-in-chief of Boston Common Magazine, a luxury lifestyle publication, and the group editor of Modern Luxury's Boston Interiors, Weddings and Charity & Social Datebook publications. She is also the founder and editor-in-chief of Boldfacers.com, a multi-media digital platform showcasing Boston's coolest talent. Prior to Boston Common Magazine, Lisa was a three-time Emmy Award-winning producer for the Chronicle show, a nightly newsmagazine on WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boston. Over her 15 year tenure, she produced half-hour shows on art theft and autism, the death penalty, last chance schools for troubled teens, and the inside workings of the Atlantic Monthly; boarded a freak-out supersonic flight on the Concorde, and survived a tricky landing on a tiny airstrip in St. Barth; profiled a Harvard professor hunting extraterrestrials, an author in search of his homeless father, and a child of Chernobyl seeking a new start in America. For the show, she traveled to all over the United States as well as Venice, London, Paris, and the Caribbean. A graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Lisa has also contributed to various publications, including DailyCandy.com, the Boston Globe ("Ask the Sartorialist" columnist), Improper Bostonian ("Best of Boston" style awards), Boston Magazine ("Ask the Fashionologist" and "Best of Boston" style awards) and freelance produces for various clients including MIT and Harvard Business School. She is a proud overseer at the Boston Ballet.

Gretta Monahan

You could call hers a Cinderella storyif Cinderella traded in her tiara for a pair of Diors, three spas and a clothing boutique. Gretta Monahan, a self-made style maven, is harnessing the fashion world by its stilettos and reinventing the concept of style. Covering top runway events and appearing as a regular Buddy on the Emmy Award winning Rachael Ray Show for nine seasons, Gretta offers her fashion and beauty know-how to everyone from Hollywood superstars to the mom next door.

Grettas award winning collection of sleek boutiques and spa emporiums stretches from Boston to Connecticut, while her frequent television appearances on The Rachael Ray Show and Good Morning America bring her down-to-earth and friendly approach into the homes of fashion-hungry viewers across the country. With the launch of her book, Style and The Successful Girl (October 2013, Gotham Books, Hardcover & Ebook) and upcoming TLC show, Grettas expertise is now available to the masses.

A graduate of Harvard Business School, Gretta Monahan has built a multi-million-dollar fashion and beauty empire that includes a high-end boutique and spas in Boston and Connecticut. Gretta divides her time between Los Angeles, Boston, and New York City.


ELISHA DANIELS

Elisha Daniels brings passion, flair & fun to every endeavor, whether she is designing fashion, producing fashion shows, working with her clients as a personal stylist, selling product on QVC, writing a book or committing her resources to finding a cure for breast cancer.

Elisha has successfully held numerous positions as a fashion & beauty expert. She inspires women through her styling advice. This led to The Boston Globe selecting her as one of The 25 Most Stylish Bostonians, New England Cable News "Style Boston" television program selecting her as a "Trend Setter"; and Boston Common & Boston Magazine heralding her with rave reviews. In 2009 she co-authored a book called You Can Do This! Surviving Breast Cancer Without Losing Your Sanity Or Your Style which has helped women all over the world. In 2011 Elisha was featured in Boston Inspirational Women, a coffee table book by Bill & Kerry Brett.

She is on the advisory board of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in NYC & is currently Director of the Board of Directors of Fashion Group International Boston.


David Josef

David Josef has been a force in the fashion industry for more than 40 years. As recently as June of 2018, David was named as the Best In Boston from Improper Bostonian Magazine .... Best Bridal Designer. David’s journey has taken him from a small sewing and alteration shop his mom owned in Providence, R.I. To his design and manufacturing studio in Boston’s South End..... to where he resides now, in Waltham, Ma. where he does his private design work for individual clients. After selling to stores nationally, like a Neiman Marcus, Lord and Taylor, Saks 5th Ave, Bloomingdales and hundreds of specialty stores throughout America, from his NYC showroom....... David took a long look at his career in 2008 when his mom passed and decided to go back to basics. Meeting with clients, one on one as he enjoyed early in his career. David recently enjoyed making the wedding dress for Jennifer Bellichick and currently works with several Broadway entertainers such as Mamma Mia’s Mary Callanan and Donna Summer’s Kaye Tuckerman.


Anna Foster

Anna Foster is the Founder/CEO of A Maven's World Lifestyle Brand. She is a connector, influencer, radio host, event host, and speaker. Anna is known by her clients as the “Maven of Business”, because of her business savvy and strategies of brand development and enhancement.

Her popular workshops “Creating Your Brand” and “Mindfulness for Entrepreneurs” serves as a guide for professionals looking to develop their personal and professional brand. Anna has partnered with numerous entrepreneurs, non-profits, and corporate clients including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, the Bottom Line, the Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association, Conexión Executive Mentorship and Leadership Program, and NAACP ActSo/STEM Competition. She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Boston Chamber of Commerce, South Shore Chamber of Commerce, South Shore Women’s Business Network. She presently sits on the Small Business Advisory Board for the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. Anna is the former Vice Chair of the Network for Women in Business-Massachusetts and the host of "Life is Fabulous with Anna Foster," a lifestyle-focused talk show on various media outlets.

Prior to founding A Maven’s World, Anna owned and operated several businesses in various industries. This experience has fueled Anna with the passion to assist entrepreneurs and professionals to live their best life and gain success by living authentically. Several years ago, Anna set out to create a world in which people who are facing obstacles and encountering challenges can feel safe instead of scared, empowered instead of defeated, and be rewarded instead of rejected.

Anna’s work has earned her various awards and recognitions; most recently including the Ignatius Foundation Sapphire Award, special appearance on numerous media outlets, and three state-level honors: 2016 from the Governor of Massachusetts, and two- consecutives honors in 2016 and 2017 from the House of Representatives.

She holds a B.A. in Business Management from Suffolk University and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. Anna has over 20 years experience as an Entrepreneur.


Janet Howard

CFDA member Janet Howard is a women’s and men’s contemporary designer best known for her signature tailoring style and design which lead her to the covers and pages of the most prestigious magazines in the world.

Janet started her career about 30 years ago as a buyer for the designer department at Nordstrom’s. Inspired by the early breakout designers of the 90’s, she decided to break out on her own and launch her first women’s contemporary collection/brand, MISC. by Janet Howard. The brand was an instant success and sold at Fred Segal, Barney’s, Nordstrom… MISC. by Janet Howard brand propelled her career with 2 runways shows, tons of press, and a nomination and won “California Rising Star Award.”

After 4 years in business with MISC. by Janet Howard, Janet decided to up the game and penetrate the luxury market, launching a Young Designer’s brand, Janet Howard. Rooted in tailoring, Janet’s brand was successfully known for sharp suits, perfectly tailored shirts and dresses, and well-structured coats and jackets. Janet’s tailoring expertise launched her into contemporary stardom. In 2000, W Magazine branded her as a “contemporary-guru.”

Many opportunities and doors opened for Janet because of her new contemporary signature design and point of view/direction. A few accolades during the Janet Howard brand period;

  • Nominated and Accepted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)
  • Nominated and won Designer of the Year Award twice
  • Nominated and won California Rising Star
  • Won twice, Dupont Lycra Worldwide Ad Campaign for Innovative Use of Stretch Fabric
  • Numerous runway shows Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (7th on 6th)
  • Creative Director: GUESS Collection (3 years’ consultant), Bisou Bisou and BeBe
  • Consulted on several films and designed collection for Rene Russo on Tin Cup
  • Sold major stores: Barneys, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom’s, NM, Intermix, Scoop, etc.

In 1999 Janet Howard was recruited by Levi Strauss to launch a first-ever partnered, “New Career” contemporary concept brand, “Slates Janet Howard.” This women’s better contemporary ready-to-wear collection encompassed jackets, coats, blazers, dresses, shirts, and pants. It was very successful with shops in Macy’s and sold to numerous department stores throughout the US. “Slates Janet Howard” first ad campaign was shot by the world renowned photographer, Richard Avedon. With all the success of “Slates Janet Howard,” Janet was promoted V.P. Design, Levi Strauss overseeing both the women’s and men’s brand at Dockers.

After leaving Levi Strauss in 2008, Janet was eager to return to her roots. Moving back to L.A., she launched “Janet” a better women’s contemporary brand with a focus on silk, cashmere and leather. “Janet” was another success and sold many stores such as Intermix, Revolve, Scoop and Maxfield’s.

In early 2010, Janet Howard and Kim Barbieri, two women entrepreneurs with backgrounds in fashion and marketing/business joined forces to develop a sophisticated “one-stop-shop” creative space for new, emerging and established designers to explore and expand ideas, develop high quality product, and provide opportunities to cultivate brands.

Martini Factory, LLC. was hatched and is one of today’s strongest and sought after fashion design and manufacturing agencies offering sampling and production services globally. MF specializes in product development for the contemporary/luxury market, offering full package services for women’s and men’s contemporary/luxury, children’s, handbags and small leather goods.


Leigha Gardner

Just outside my childhood home grew lots of lilacs and a blossoming pink cherry tree. The eponymous street where I grew up is a symbol to me of brightness and happiness, and this blog, named after my home, is intended to embody just that.

During my last semester at Northeastern University as an economics major, I found myself at a bit of a crossroads. I took a job working at a software company in the energy industry and having finished school a semester earlier than most of my friends, I desperately needed The Lilac Press. After a day at my 9-5, and while my friends were still studying for exams, I started dipping my toe into the blogging world bit by bit. I had no idea what I was doing! But, I was having fun and learning a lot, so I kept at it in my free time. The Lilac Press has become a place for me to cultivate my passions in fashion and beauty as well as to interact with so many of you who have similar interests!

I love fresh blooms, sweet treats and a good pair of shoes. My hope is that this can continue to be both a creative outlet for me and an enjoyable experience for you, while I explore what’s next on the roadmap!


Kathy Benharris

Kathy Benharris is a fashion event producer and stylist that leads the largest Boston based fashion group in Boston, the Boston Fashion Meetup Group. She is also a board member of Fashion Group International of Boston and is the Boston Direct Elect assuming the position of Regional Director in January 2019. Kathy's clients include individual brands and designers, international charities, professional sports teams, private clients, retail entities, fashion colleges, and publications. She leads a team of fashion rockstars that has developed, styled, and produced fashion events during New York Fashion Week, Boston Fashion Week, as well as throughout each calendar year.


Known for her innovative runway design and choreography, Kathy's meticulous planning and creative strategies combined with her well honed skills as a producer, deliver her clients' event goals often exceeding expectations. There is a purpose and business goal for every fashion event and Kathy is tenacious in her pursuit of delivering the event as planned while seeking additional opportunities to maximize it’s success by ensuring excellence in all aspects of event execution.

When styling private individuals or serving her business clients, Kathy's style philosophy is that fashion should always highlight an individual's unique energy and empower them with the confidence that can only come from knowing they look your best. "I believe you are only limited by your imagination and how you personally choose to interpret what inspires you. I love mixing high-end designer pieces with budget friendly fashion and vintage to craft outfits that are unique and fresh.
