Event description
During this 2 day event, Sheila Burns and RJ Formanek will share their expertise and insights into supporting individuals with FASD.

About this Event

November 8, 2019 9:00 am-3:30 pm

November 15, 2019 9:00 am-3:30 pm

**Must be available to attend both days.**

With Sheila Burns we will take a look at a fresh approach to FASD and training. The “My Kind of Mind” booklet and the “At A Glance” companion card are designed to explore multiple neurodevelopmental factors common in FASD. This helps the individual, caregivers and professionals build interventions that consider the diffuse brain injury and a pathway to reset expectations. For professionals, the FASD/ND Service Planning Guide is designed to help track relevant information that can inform diagnosis and enhance and direct therapeutic interventions, classroom placement, parenting, and plans of care.

Having obtained a diagnosis later in life, RJ Formanek has a number of unique insights about living with FASD. It is these nuggets of information, learned along the way, that he shares with others in hope of fostering a better understanding. RJ will talk about the developmental nature of FASD and what becoming an adult entails in today’s society.

R.J. Formanek is the founder and key-administrator for "Flying with Broken Wings". He is also the co-founder of Red Shoes Rock. Stop FASD, an international advocacy initiative to build awareness of the reality and needs of persons living with FASD.

Plenty of time will be given for Q & A from both RJ and a panel of individuals with FASD from our communities.
