Tickets are required! Minimum age is 6. Each ticket is for one adult and one child. You may purchase an additional child ticket, however there must be 1 adult for every 2 children please!

WORKSHOPS HAPPEN RAIN OR SHINE!

For each workshop we will start with a short talk in our barn and then we will head out into Farrington’s 75 acres of woods (off trail!) to put into practice what we have just learned.

Each workshop has limited space so sign up soon if you want to attend!

2. Tree to Table with PrimiTim

Saturday, October 27 at 9am-12pm

What is there to eat in the woods? Every season and landscape offers unique and nutritious plants to eat and use as medicine! Let's go on a walk and learn about the most local, organic, and free plants in our area! Limited to 30 attendees.

3. Shelter Building with PrimiTim

Saturday, November 3rd at 9am-12pm

It can get cold out there. Do you have the knowledge to keep yourself warm by using only materials found on the forest floor? We will learn about clothing selection, things to pack in your survival kit, and how to construct a debris shelter by using no tools! Limited to 30 attendees.

4. Intro to Animal Tracking and Bird Signs

Saturday, November 17 at 1pm-4pm

We’re going into the woods with Bob Metcalfe of New England Discovery looking for evidence of the animals around us. Tracking can be a very powerful way to learn about nature while seeing first hand some of the many connections between animals and their environment. Limited to 15 attendees.

1. Primitive Fire Making and Cordage with PrimiTim

Saturday, October 20 at 9am -12pm

Starting with a lighter, you will learn the mechanics of modern fire making tools, and we will move back in time and learn about the bow brill, hand drill, and strap drill friction fire making methods. We will then explore hands-on cordage making (rope from plant fibers) learning the history, how to harvest and prepare fibers and of course making your own. Perhaps the most important ancient skill! Limited to 30 attendees.

Workshop leader bios:

Tim “PrimiTim” Swanson has degrees in Adventure Education Leadership and Adventure Therapy and is a survival skills instructor with over 10 years of experience. He works with all ages encouraging people to connect with the earth by learning and practicing ancient living skills. Bob Metcalfe of New England Discovery is a licensed guide, naturalist and environmental educator who has been sharing his knowledge of local wildlife and ecosystems with adults and children for over twenty five years. Bob’s classes focus on interpretation of wildlife tracks and sign to help us learn about what animals are active in the area and how they are utilizing the landscape.
