Description

Join us on Saturday, December 7 as part of Brooklyn Historical Society's for free family programming at BHS DUMBO.

Did you know Bridges are amazing? Did you know the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges have a significant connection with a certain family that loves bridges? Let’s celebrate bridges in Brooklyn! Families will learn about principles of building sturdy bridges that actually function as means of transportation. The use of gas lighting as an important part of the Brooklyn Bridge will be featured.

Then stay to enjoy the many family-friendly parts of Waterfront with children as young as one-year old to…

  • Dress up like the women welders of the Brooklyn Navy Yard in WWII.

  • Touch and smell goods, like cochineal bugs and coffee beans, which passed through Empire Stores when it was a busy warehouse.

  • Use our Brooklyn waterfront magnet board to design your own city.

  • Film videos of yourself traveling back in time.

  • Color a Brooklyn waterfront themed postcard to mail to family & friends.

Don't miss this special morning for families!

Funding for Family Programs is generously provided, in part, by National Grid. Programs are also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and are supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council.
