October is Family History Month. It's a time to remember and discover our roots and celebrate our unique histories...and non-members may visit the CGS Library free all month!
Use our in-house computers with access to subscription websites like Ancestry.com, NewspaperArchive.com, Fold3.com, Vitalsearch.com and more. Explore our resources and tour of our extensive genealogy library with more than 38,000 volumes of hard to find materials that can further your family research.
Every Thursday in October we will have an informal Lunch & Learn discussion group from 11:30 - 1:30 providing an opportunity to meet other researchers who may have an answer to your genealogy questions. Time permitting, there may be a few opportunities to have brief one-on-one consultations. Past President Jane Lindsey and others will facilitate. Please bring your own lunch. The Library opens at 10:00 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m. Come early and stay all day.
We are located in the historic Breuner Building at 22nd Street & Broadway, one block north of the Paramount Theater, in Uptown Oakland. We are just three blocks from the 19th Street BART Station. If you plan to drive, there are nearby parking garages and metered spaces are available on the surrounding streets.

Whether you have Gold Rush ancestors or have no family connection to California, you will find extensive support for your genealogy research at the California Genealogical Society (CGS) in Oakland. The society offers research services, online indexes and databases, and a research library housing over 38,000 reference materials from California, the United States, and around the world. CGS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The library is conveniently located in Uptown Oakland, one block north of the Paramount Theatre, at 2201 Broadway, Suite LL2. We are three blocks from the 19th Street BART Station.
