About this event

Our Family Farm Walks provide your family a place and time to experience nature, to smell, see, taste, touch, and hear all of the organic farm and what its wild places have to offer. In this way, we will set the stage for our children to develop their own healthy relationships with nature, food and exercise.

The $30 admission donation gives you semi-private access to the upper farm and will help our nonprofit organization weather the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis. Additional funds gifted will support our produce donation program to vulnerable families in our community or our farm care program for working families.

Along the tour route you will find:

  • hilly paths to walk, run and skip along
  • chicks and laying hens
  • Pygmy goats
  • a swaled hillside featuring citrus, grapes, pineapple guava and a frog pond (our favorite place on the farm for 5 senses exploration and hide and seek)
  • a pony corral
  • a cow named Bella and her friend, a pig named Lucky
  • Discovery and permaculture gardens
  • a beautiful picnic platform with a view

Usually, we encourage folks to pick seasonal fruits and vegetables along the way. In order to ensure health and safety, we will provide instructions about enjoying seasonal opportunities on your walk as conditions evolve.

Cost is $30 per family, please email education@farmdiscovery.org if your family needs a scholarship.

What to Bring:

  • Water/ water bottles (there is plenty of potable water around the farm for refills)
  • Close-toed shoes
  • Hats
  • Sunscreen
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Baby carrier/stroller

Farms are dynamic places. Some of these features will be at their best during certain times of year. Visit us often to watch the changes.

We can provide a full refund or reschedule your visit up to 7 days before your visit.

**please note we have big, friendly farm guard dogs on the farm. Their job is to protect the farm, its animals and plants. Please do not be afraid of them, they are nice.

About the organizer

Who we are
Farm Discovery at Live Earth is a nonprofit organization working in the Pajaro Valley community to empower youth and families to build and sustain healthy food, farming, social and natural systems. Our home, Live Earth Farm, is a 150 acre patchwork of working farm, riparian corridor, oak and redwood forest in the Pajaro Valley of Santa Cruz County, California.

What we care about
We believe that we can transform personal and community health and improve our impact on earth by building and sustaining collaborative agricultural, ecological and social systems. We believe that communities armed with knowledge and the skills of inquiry can transform food, farming and natural systems for the better.

What we do
  • Farm Discovery offers educational programs that inspire youth and families to transform their relationship to food, farming and nature.
  • We steward our working farm and its wild spaces as an environmentally and economically viable piece of the food system and a learning space.
  • We collaborate with community partners to learn from each other and extend our collective impact in the community.
