ABOUT TONY TRIMINGHAM
Tony Trimingham's life changed forever in 1996 when he discovered that his 21 year old son, Damien was dependent on heroin and even more when he died of an overdose 12 months later. After writing a letter to the Sydney Morning Herald about the death of Damien and the drug scene in Australia he found himself on a journey he never expected. Tony founded Family Drug Support in 1997, a well-respected organization and established National service for families of drug and alcohol users.  Tony’s work has been recognized by numerous honors and awards including (but not exhaustive): In 1998, he was appointed a founding member of the Australian National Council on Drugs by John Howard. In 1999 he was awarded by the Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia an Australia Day Medallion for outstanding achievement. In 2005, He was honored with a Medal of the Order of Australia award, and received the Australian Humanitarian award.

Families for Sensible Drug Policy & Family Drug Support

Families for Sensible Drug Policy (FSDP) is a global coalition of families, professionals, and organizations representing the voice of the family impacted by substance use and the harms of existing drug policies. We empower families by educating and advocating for a new paradigm of comprehensive care and progressive solutions for family support based on science, compassion, public health and human rights.

We are committed to regaining control of our families’ health by collaborating with our stakeholders to advance comprehensive public health approaches, best healthcare practices, reality-based education and family-friendly drug policy reform.

Family Drug Support, based in Australia and founded by Tony Trimingham, provides up to date information on all aspects of alcohol and drug use relative to the families of alcohol and other drug users.
