Event description

Description

By creating artifacts out of deconstructed plastic grocery bags, Carol Sogard questions the necessity of plastic and draws attention to the vast quantities we consume. For this project, repurpose single-use plastic by turning it into a tactile, woven artwork. Use our collection of old grocery bags or bring your own stash from home and learn how to make your own “plarn,” or plastic yarn, before weaving your ARTifact.

Family Art Saturday is a monthly event at UMOCA which invites children of all ages and their families to discover our exhibitions and participate together in hands-on art making activities led by a trained educator. Each activity connects to a brand new idea, medium or theme explored by an artist currently exhibited in the museum. Projects are suitable from toddler to tween in a wide range of abilities.

Family Art Saturday is offered free of charge. Museum admission is a $5 suggested donation to help support our programming. Please RSVP through Eventbrite so we can recieve a proper headcount of attendees for this event.
