Event description

Make a silent retreat. Revive and renew your Christian faith and family relations.

Discover how the Church's Office of the Hours can enrich your personal life. One, two and three day retreats are led by Father Tom Bartolomeo and are available through November 17th this year. One day retreats begin Sunday mornings 8am and conclude Sunday afternoons 4pm. Two day retreats begin Saturday mornings 8am and conclude Sunday evenings 4pm. Three day retreats begin Friday evenings 7pm and conclude Monday afternoons 4pm. Daily Mass will be celebrated every morning and silence will be respected throughout the day except for meetings and meals which we will share together. We will accommodate individual schedules as much as possible. Please email me to discuss.

Our retreats embody the spirit of Christ who sent his Apostles into the world instructing them, "as you have freely received so you should freely offer" and will include individual guest bedrooms. (Matthew 10:8). No payment is required or will be asked for. ( A modest good-will offering for the house's upkeep would be acceptable but, again, is not required.)

The retreat house was originally an early pioneer one room house c.1709 which was enlarged over many generations into a twelve room house with six bedrooms and incorporates in its architecture all major periods of American home constructions from pre-Revolutionary, Federal, neo-Classical and Victorian eras. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and was featured in the "Great Homes and Destinations" section of the New York Sunday Times and is located in Orange County, New York -- sixty miles North of New York City in a rural setting of dairy farms and apple orchards including a small backyard orchard on the property.

The retreats are free of charge. Good will offering may be made after the retreat but are not required. If not satisfied with the retreat no donation or payment would be expected.

What are the retreat requirements?

Maintain silence during the retreat without disturbing others on retreat except, of course, during our group discussions and meals together. Attend a daily 30 to 40 minute mid-morning and mid-afternoon group discussion of the readings of the Office of the Hours copies of which will be provided each person. The retreat director will be available to meet privately with anyone on retreat.

What else can I do while "on retreat'?

Anything you want without disturbing others. Meet or talk to the retreat director. Read any of the books in the library. Exercise or take a nap. Climb the local hills and take in the scenery. Chop wood, mow the lawn or contribute however you wish towards the upkeep of the house. Like to cook? Or simply keep to yourself. All in silence, of course, except for our two daily group discussions and meals together.

When is a retreat registration closed for a particular date?

Registrations may be made weeks in advance but should be confirmed no later than three days before the retreat. Registrations may not be made later than two days before a scheduled retreat and require that you personally speak to the retreat director by telephone before making retreat arrangements.
