Financial Analysis & Management Education (FAME)
FAME is an independent student organization that was founded at San Francisco State University in 2008. Our mission is to advance the financial education of our members by bridging the gap between the classroom and the business world.
From its inception, FAME has put on a vast array of events for our members. We have had executives present to us from companies such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, and others. In the summer of 2012, FAME had Howard Marks, founder of Oaktree Capital Management, speak at a charity event. FAME has also welcome Jeff Ubben, Dixon Doll, Charles de Vaulx, Donald Yacktman, and many other luminaries from the world of value investing.
To provide our members with opportunities to further their education and develop necessary real-world experience, we have provided resume and networking workshops, public speaking symposiums, valuation and financial modeling classes, mock interviews, and CFA preparation seminars. Our members have also participated in national and international competitions such as the Citibank International Case Competition, the ModelOff Financial Modeling Challenge, and the CFA Institute Research Challenge.
To educate our members on investing, FAME launched the first mock student investment fund at SFSU. Our fund follows the principles of value investing, based on the investment philosophies of Benjamin Graham and David Dodd.
We not only aim to help our members professionally, but also to teach the importance of philanthropy and giving back to the community. Over the years, we have volunteered at Glide Memorial, St. Jude Marathon, MS Walk, JPM Chase Corporate Challenge, as well as embarking on a financial literacy program to provide under-served communities with a basic financial education.
These efforts have contributed to the individual success of each of our members. In addition to excelling academically, our members have received internships or full-time positions in Corporate Finance, Real Estate Finance, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Investment Management, Equity Research, and Investment Banking.
