Description

UPDATE: We value the safety and health of you and your family. Given recent public health guidance and space closures of George Mason University facilities, we are postponing Spring Forward 2020. Registration will remain open for the new date, Saturday, October 17, 2020.

We will continue monitoring the COVID-19 situation and consider any new steps if necessary. If the event is canceled, full refunds will be made via Eventbrite.

Join Formed Families Forward for our 7th annual Foster, Adoptive and Kinship Family Fun Day! Now scheduled for October 17, our autumn event is called Falling Into Place: Celebrating Family Resilience. The event remains similar to that we planned for May, but with even more reason to re-connect and celebrate family strengths.

Download the Falling Into Place EVENT FLYER HERE.

Tickets include admittance to sessions, activities, and a boxed lunch.

Our family fun day is returning for a second year to the Science and Technology Campus of George Mason University in Manassas for the popular outdoor activities for children and youth. This year we are adding a youth and young adult track which will provide great learning opportunities for our teen and young adult participants.

While parents, caregivers and professionals are enjoying sessions presented by experts in education and support of foster, adoptive and kinship families, children age 4 and older will have a blast at GMU's outdoor experiential learning program "The EDGE". More information on the programming for children and teens is provided below or can be found by visiting https://edge.gmu.edu.

Our Keynote and youth track breakout session presenter is Oleg Lougheed, founder and director of the nonprofit Overcoming Odds. Oleg’s start in life was inauspicious. At 9 years old, he relinquished his parents' rights and entered a Russian orphanage. At 12 years old, he decided to be adopted into a new family, in a new country, halfway across the world, to start a new life. At 24 years old, he began his journey of helping others live the life they have always dreamed of, despite their hardships and misfortunes by allowing them to recognize the uniqueness and worth within their own story.

Families, professionals, youth and young adults will choose from a variety of breakout sessions presented by the staff and Board of Formed Families Forward and the George Mason University Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC).
