Event description
Join us for our 5th year of macroinvertebrate sampling in the Cedar River!

About this Event

Stream samplings are a great way to become involved in your community, meet new people with similar interests, and make a difference by helping to monitor the biodiversity of the Cedar River Watershed.

Volunteers will gather at 9am at Pavilion 1 (next to the playground) at Gladwin City Park, located at 240 S Cayuga St, Gladwin, MI 48624.

From there, you will be put into a team with 5-8 other volunteers and together you will travel to your site to gather macroinvertebrates. Each team consists of a trained Team Leader, a Collector that stays in the water and brings the samples to the Runner on the bank who takes the buckets up to the tables, where Pickers find and collect the bugs to preserve them on-site. Whether you have years of experience or none whatsoever, there is a spot for you! Kids 10-years and older are welcome. We recommend you wear shoes that can get muddy.

We will sample from about 9-12:30 and lunch will be provided following the event!

Identification night will be the following Monday on September 16th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

This will take place at the Little Forks Conservancy office at 105 Post St in Midland. The Identification night is when all of the macroinvertebrates collected during our samplings will be identified and recorded. Previous knowledge of macroinvertebrates is not necessary, we provide guides for you to use.

Register for either or both events using the "Register" link to the right!
