Event description

Description

SIGN UP EARLY FOR OUR FALL SAMPLER! Limited seats.

Please join us for our Fall Series "Sampler" as we explore the idea of writing word by word and bird by bird, guided by the wisdom of writer Anne Lamott.

Our Fall Series will use Lamott's famous book Bird By Bird: Instructions on Writing and Life as our core text, setting up the semester themes of writing, birds, humor, memoir, and storytelling. The Sampler will give you a taste of what is to come this fall, which includes our fall art show, titled "Birds" and featuring six local artists and six local writers, and various related activities.

WHAT: Fall Sampler 2019
WHEN: August 28, 2019, 6-8:30 p.m. (arrive 5:45)
WHERE: Riverside (1610 Osceola Street, 32204)
CLASS SIZE: Limited to 12 spaces.
FEE: $25 for the Sampler (non-refundable unless canceled two weeks before class).

In this Sampler class, we'll explore how writing can be approached using a step-by-step process as laid out in Bird By Bird by Anne Lamott.

If you enjoy this Sampler, try our Fall Series 2019 beginning the following week, Sept. 4, where we'll explore more deeply themes of the book: writing vs. publishing, writing and spirituality/creativity, and writing and community.

The Fall Series meets weekly on Wednesday nights for 12 weeks, beginning September 4 and ending November 20. The semester culminates in our Public ReadAround on the weekend of Dec. 7-8, 2019.

New writer? Remember, you don't have to be a professional writer to join in. Use this class to find out more about Women Writing for (a) Change's amazing process, used by thousands of women across the country to express their authentic selves through writing and community-building. We'll use prompts, poetry, and prose to practice many different writing techniques.

Experienced writer? You'll have a chance to sharpen your craft and technique in our small-group circles, so, bring whatever project you're working on and expect good feedback.

“A circle of women may be the most powerful force known to humanity. If you have one, embrace it. If you need one, seek it. If you find one, for the love of all that is good and holy, Dive in. Hold on. Love it up. Get naked. Let them see you. Let them hold you. Let your reluctant tears fall. Let yourself rise fierce and love great. You will be changed. The very fabric of your Being will be altered by this. If you allow it. Please, allow it."
