Event description

Description

The Junior Appalachian Musicians program offers group lesson for students in the third through ninth grades (or ages 8-14) teaching traditional mountain tunes on fiddle, banjo and guitar. Professional musicians guide the classes every Wednesday through demonstration, repetition and verbal instructions, and then breaking students into smaller instrument groups.

The first day of class is September 4, 2019. Parents are asked to stay for the beginning of the class.

Classes are $10 per lesson, paid in two quarters - $70 due on September 4 and $70 due on October 23 for the 14 weeks from September 4 through December 11. Homeschoolers are welcome. The BMCA has some instruments available for rent.

JAM is supported by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. JAM is a regional program; BMCA hosts the Buncombe County classes.
